Winners of the two Maiden races at the prestigious Barbury International fixture are set to be rewarded with a voucher worth £1,000 to spend at any Irish sale thanks to a new initiative between Barbury and Irish Thoroughbred Marketing.

The two Maiden races – the Albert Bartlett 4 & 5 Year old Maiden and Tattersalls Ireland Open Maiden (6YO+) each carry maximum allowed prize money of £750, but will be worth a further £500 each with the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing prize.

“This fixture is all about developing young horses within the UK market,” commented Peter McNeile, for the Barbury Race committee. “To have an endorsement of our efforts by a forward-thinking organization like ITM adds terrific value to the fixture, and makes it really worthwhile travelling a horse to Barbury. To get a head start at the sales when looking for a new youngster to bring on is really valuable to owners and keepers looking to launch the careers of their young stock in the Point-to-Point programme.”

Eimear Grant for ITM added ”Ireland has long been famed as the leading source of jumping talent. Year after year, horses bred in Ireland and purchased at Irish sales have proven their worth in the pointing field and under rules on both sides of the Irish Sea. There has been some stiff competition from British Point-To-Pointers in recent years, but horses such as Faugheen (IRE) and Native River (IRE) have continued to fly the flag for Ireland on the biggest stages of all. The Barbury International fixture is a wonderful opportunity for ITM to support Point-To-Points in Britain and showcase the quality of horses bred and sold in Ireland. The meeting also provides us with a great platform through which to promote the assistance that ITM offers to all foreign buyers at Irish sales.”
