Nigel owned the Barbury Castle Estate for 20 years, and previously established and ran a highly successful telephony business in Swindon. On acquiring Barbury in 1991, he and wife Penny set about creating a paradise for horse sports, built around eventing and racing. He sold the estate in February 2017, downsizing to Salisbury. His racing enthusiasm remains undimmed however, and he continues to chair the committee overseeing the International fixture.
Ilona is Secretary to the International meeting at Barbury, and a highly successful General Manager of busy Stratford-on-Avon Racecourse in Warwickshire. With her feet firmly planted in the Point-to-Point world, Ilona’s organizational and race-planning experience has been put to good effect.
Peter is a seasoned racing professional and acted for many years as Director of Sponsorship at Cheltenham, home of Jump racing during a halcyon era that saw the introduction of the fourth day to the Festival, and the emergence of the Open and International meetings. More recently that expertise has been put to good use in recruiting new national partnerships for Point-to-Point racing, including Subaru, Volvo & Skinner’s Pet Foods. Peter is heavily involved across all Barbury fixtures, including the Horse Trials, and also runs several other Point-to-Point fixtures.
David Minton has been at the top of his profession for 40 years. A previous Director of the Curragh Bloodstock Agency and his own David Minton Bloodstock, he was head-hunted by the British Bloodstock Agency in 1995 along with Anthony Bromley. They left in 2001 to set up Highflyer Bloodstock. David has bought three Grand National winners Hedgehunter, Party Politics and Ballabriggs as well as five Champion Hurdle winners during an illustrious career.
Sprinter Sacre, My Tent Or Yours, Bobs Worth and The New One are his current superstars over jumps.
He currently is a director of Ludlow Racecourse and a keen Pointing owner.
Richard Fuller is a board director of Fuller Smith & Turner Plc, brewer of London Pride and other beers, and a trustee of the Wavertree Charitable Trust. He is a former chairman of the Point-to-Point Owners Association, and chairs both Vine & Craven Point-to-Point meetings, one at Barbury and one at Hackwood Park, training Pointers of his own at home.
