David Weston's Jumps summer has been rather curtailed compared to the past few years, but stable favourite Solstalla put smiles back on faces when winning the catchily-titled Poundland Foundation Proudly Supports Make-A-Wish Mares Handicap Hurdle at Wariwck yesterday, a fixture deferred from Monday because of the Queen's Funeral.

The Marlborough trainer has sent out just 7 runners this summer in contrast to last season, when 26 runners redeemed 6 winners. Solstalla was winner number one of this 5 month old season.

In what may prove not to be the mosty competitive of handicaps, Solstalla still had to work hard to win her owner the £4,030 winning prize. Taking it up two out, her lead was eaten away to just a head at the line by Une de la Seniere, trained by in-form Championship leader Fergal O'Brien.

It was a welcome fillip too for Page Fuller, riding just her fourth winner this term. Rides this month have been hard to come by, but only because Page's trainers are waiting on the ground to ease.

Solstalla has been the sort of horse most owners would give their eye teeth for. Nine winners and a further 15 placed efforts give her a 50% chance of reaching the frame in her 50 races to date, and whilst they may be modest races, a winner is a winner. After a hat-trick last summer, this was her first winner since last August.
