Everleigh-based Richard Hannon Jnr has trained a number of great horses, although one has stood out from the rest in his yard in the 2021 flat campaign. Oh This Is Us has performed extremely well over the course of the season to date, winning two of his seven runs. Hannon will now be pressing his charge forward for a run at Newmarket in the Bunbury Cup in July.

There will be a number of strong contenders in the field along with Oh This Is Us’ own stable-mate Motakhayyel, who will be looking to win the race for the second year in a row. However, Hannon will be feeling optimistic that Oh This Is Us could be his best opportunity of claiming the crown once again based on the quality of his performances. He is certainly one to watch in the horse racing tips and will provide good value for bettors lining up a punt on the event.

Oh This Is Us only recorded one victory in the 2020 season, at Chelmsford towards the end of the term. He built up a semblance of momentum to take into the new campaign, although he began with underwhelming outings at Wolverhampton and Lingfield, placing well down the field in ninth in both races. The eight-year-old found his form at Newmarket in the Pat Smullen Memorial Handicap. Oh This Is Us was considered an outsider for that win at 14/1 beforehand, but he proved his mettle on the course to finish in second, narrowly missing out on the line to Overwrite.

He could not sustain the level of his performance at the Spring Cup at Newbury. Although the Irish-bred was still an outsider, there was hope that he could match a repeat of his outing from Newmarket. Sean Levey in the saddle put his charge in contention for a run down the stretch, but he faded down the final furlong and dropped into ninth place.

As a result of his display, the bookies were dismissive over his chances at the Queen Anne Stakes Trial at Ascot in April. His odds were as low as 66/1 before the contest, but Hannon and his charge proved their doubters wrong with the best display of his career. Against a top-quality field, Oh This Is Us timed his surge to perfection and was able to beat out Prince Eiji in the crux moment of the race, taking the victory by a head on the line.

He continued to run well in his next appearance at Windsor in the Royal Windsor Stakes, finishing behind Solid Stone and his stable-mate Qaysar to place in fourth. The doubters were out in force for the Diomed Stakes as Oh This Is Us was not considered one of the leading contenders at Epsom. With Tom Marquand in the saddle, the eight-year-old highlighted his stamina and speed down in the closing stages of the contest. Once more Hannon's charge had a surge of pace and beat out Century Dream on the line by a nose.

Whether that performance will be enough to convince the doubters of his pedigree remains to be seen. However, Oh This Is Us will certainly provide value for those wise bettors for the rest of the 2021 campaign.
