Warwick's Classic Chase has come on a long way since the days of the Brooke Bond Oxo Warwick National, a 4m slog in mid-winter mud won by out and out stayers 40 years ago.

Shortened in distance, and now with the benefit of Premier Racing financing behind it, the race has allowed Warwick to showcase why those five fences in the back straight are as good a preparation for Grade I company as any course in the land.

The latest recipient of Premier racing largesse is Marlborough's Emma Lavelle, whose mare My Silver Lining relished the jumping test to hold off fellow mare Galia Des Liteaux by 3/4l in the 3m 5f handicap, earning connections a weighty £56,950.

This was a career best for rider James Best, and tactically astute; the winner is owned by his mother-in-law, Celia Djivanovic, who surrendered the ride on a previous winner of the Grimthorpe at Kempton to come here.

The Ogbourne Maizey yard has claimed some territorial rights on this race, having won it in 2014 with Shotgun Paddy and in 2022 with Eclair du Surf. The winner will be aimed at the Midlands National next.
