Barbury Racecourse’s three fixtures this season have co-ordinated effort to capture their share of the runners competing in Point-to-Point races by devising four initiatives for the forthcoming season, launching with the unique Barbury International fixture next weekend, on Sunday December 15th.

Leading Irish equine supplements firm Plusvital is to underwrite a fresh initiative to encourage runners.  Spread across the three meetings and 20 races of the Barbury season, trainers will be allocated points for running a horse in each race, with bonus points for winning or placed horses in the Plusvital Trainers Championship. The top trainer at the end of the season will be provided with a £500 voucher to spend on Plusvital products, along with a free consultancy session. Trainers will be able to see their tally at www.barburyraces.co.uk.

As a further initiative to riders, outdoor clothing brand Dubarry is switching its seasonal initiative to reward the leading rider at Barbury through the season with a £1,000 voucher to spend online or through a Dubarry stockist. Points are assigned throughout each of the season’s races, with 10pts a winner, 5pts for a second, 3pts a third and a single point for any rider coming under Orders.

And fashion retailer Moloh, which sponsored an award for the leading lady owner in 2018-19, returns for more of the same, awarding a £1,000 voucher to spend in the Tetbury and Pimlico shops.

There’s further good news for owners of young horses competing at this year’s International fixture, where Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, sponsor of the opening Bumper, will award the winning owner a £500 voucher to spend at any Thoroughbred sale in Ireland, as well as free travel and accommodation. “Ireland is a destination market for anyone looking for a quality horse, and we love the competitive edge of the International and its focus on young horses,” adds Sile Hayes for ITM.

“Barbury provides some of the finest amateur steeplechasing in the South of England, and our fixtures draw owners and riders from all over the Midlands, Wales and the West Country. We’re delighted to reinforce Barbury’s reputation for large fields and competitive racing with these three generous initiatives, which engage horsemen to improve performance, and leave them and their owners better dressed too,” commented Peter McNeile, for the International fixture. “The reputation of the International in particular, in producing top quality bloodstock, from within the UK and from Ireland and further afield, can only be enhanced by the great selection of season-long awards that support owners’ decisions to run at Barbury.”

Speaking for Plusvital, Ciara Watt added, “We are pleased to be able to support this welcome initiative to encourage runners at Barbury. The Plusvital supplement range has been used by leading trainers for over 40 years and we see this partnership with Barbury as a perfect platform for us to support trainers across the south of England. We look forward to engaging with trainers and owners to offer nutritional support over the coming months.”
