Leading jockey Bryony Frost suffered a horror fall on a recent ride, resulting in a broken collarbone. The UK's leading lady jockey fell while riding in the Excel Signs Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase in Bangor on Saturday, November 26. Frost fell while riding Sir Psycho at the second. She fell hard on her shoulder and was immediately taken to the hospital.

Frost is now planning a return for Kempton's King George VI Chase, which will take place on Boxing Day. Trainer Paul Nicholls informed the media of Frost’s fall and subsequent collarbone break. Nicholls trained Sir Psycho, an unfortunate name for the horse that threw Frost. Predictably, while Frost is nursing a broken collarbone, Sir Psycho was not hurt in the incident. Only the best horses tend to get injured!

Horse racing fans are preparing for a fantastic holiday season of events. There is a lot of debate over whether Frost will be ready again to ride Frodon, one of the King George fancies in British and Irish racing today. Fans can use the to bet on Frodon’s Betfred Grand National offers upcoming races or any of the other top-rated horses.

The jockey is aiming for a return to the saddle on Boxing Day. Although she is very sore following the injury, Frost is itching to get back to work. Now 27, Frost spent six months in 2022 nursing a broken back. She suffered the back injury during a race at Aintree and returned to race riding in a flat race at Goodwood in October.

Frost returned from the broken back with a win in the Badger Beer Chase at Wincanton early in November, yet another win for the enduring partnership between her and Frodon. Frost hopes to take the mount on Frodon for the King George VI on Boxing Day and to return again from another major injury.

November was a successful month for Frost until Sir Psycho. She followed up the win at Wincanton with Frodon with a third-place finish in the Betfair Chase at Haydock. The race illustrated that much touted invincibility is a will o the wisp as A Plus Tard looked pedestrian in the small field race won by Protektorat.

In 2019, Frost made horse racing history by becoming the first female jockey to win a Grade I race. She accomplished the feat at the renowned Cheltenham Festival. It was one of the biggest stages in British and Irish horse racing for Frost to achieve the feat. The Ryanair Chase and the King George VI Chase are the two most prestigious races Frost won before her latest injury and the association with Frodon has catapulted her into the top echelons of the riding ranks and a visibility not easily earned on the day to day circuit.

Frost’s King George VI Chase win in 2020 was aboard Frodon. She was once again in the saddle of that highly rated horse in 2021, as they won the Ladbrokes Champions Chase at Down Royal.

The jockey has around one month to heal before the King George VI race on Boxing Day. According to medical advice, a broken collarbone could take between six and 12 weeks to heal. Frost is currently racing against time to get back in the saddle, but like every jockey, every day spent on the sidelines is another mount lost to a rival; She'll be busting a gut to get her fitness back for another vintage affair with Frodon.

Two national favourites.
