Barbury Season Awards - prizes for riders, keepers & owners

Dubarry Leading Rider Award

Dubarry, the leading Irish country clothing company, is to partner with Barbury Races to support a new Leading Rider Award during the season at Barbury. In addition, the brand will support an Outstanding Performance Award at the Barbury International Point-to-Point on Sunday December 15th 2019.

The Dubarry Leading Rider Award will be adjudged over the 20+ races that comprise the calendar of events, starting with the International meeting in November and concluding at the Tedworth on April 5th. Points will be awarded for winners and placed horses, on the basis of 10pts for a winner, 5pts for a second and 3pts for a third. A point will also be awarded for an unplaced runner. With multiple divisions at both the International and Vine & Craven meetings, there has been plenty of opportunity to get on the scoresheet.

The winning Rider with the most points at the end of the season will receive a voucher to exchange against Dubarry products worth £1,000. Scores for trainers with less than 9pts can be clarified from info@barburyraces.co.uk

The Dubarry Outstanding Performance Award will be presented to the rider or trainer who put up the most outstanding performance at the Barbury International Point-to-Point, judged by a selection panel comprising a representative of Barbury Racecourse, Dubarry and the Point-to-Point press.

Plusvital Leading Keeper Award

New to Barbury for this season, we welcome equine sports supplements firm Plusvital to a scheme that has proved very successful in encouraging runners. Plusvital know a thing or two about improving performance, as their scientifically-based supplements have been providing an edge to competitors in every field of equestrian and racing excellence for years.

The Plusvital Leading Keeper Award will be adjudged across each of our races during the three fixtures this season at Barbury - a minimum of 20 races, starting with the International. Points will be awarded as for the leading rider scheme, and having a runner - even unplaced - could be the difference between winning or losing. The winning keeper will receive £500 worth of Plusvital products and a free consultancy, whilst two runners-up will each receive £250 of product.

Enthusiastic owners Clive and Joan Hitchings are based only a few miles from Chaddesley Corbett racecourse and have long wanted a horse good enough to land the prestigious Lady Dudley Cup which takes centre stage on the seven race-card at the Worcestershire venue on Saturday. And their wish may have been granted in the shape of Grace A Vous Enki, who bids to extend his unbeaten sequence to six vi...

"Quality will out" is a watchword for racing at Aintree nowadays, where the era of long-priced unfancied horses has largely been put to bed by changes to race conditions and the shape of the fences. And perhaps the racing over the National fences is better for that.  That quality was proven yesterday when 3/1 favourite It's On The Line, trained by Emmet Mullins, and ridden by Derek O'Connor,...

Time Leader and Spyglass offer the best chance of continued home-grown success on the Randox Foxhunter Chase, the second of the three "classics" of the amateur season tomorrow at Aintree.  Twenty-two runners line up for the thrill of a lifetime - a circuit of Aintree's Grand National fences, but rarely nowadays, the ground will be soft or heavy, which always throws up some imponderables. Ti...

Can you name me a trainer who has improved his strike rate nearly threefold this season? I thought not.  Robbie Llewellyn is proving that the small man can make training work, notching his 22nd winner of the season this afternoon at Hereford with Ask Me Another in the National Hunt Novices Hurdle. Llewellyn is a product of the South Wales School of Training Excellence, but has now set up sho...
